A word that is now a big part of my vocabulary. I’ve been doing some reading online this past week! But I’ll get to that…
Today has been a great day.
Made some break throughs in my math class this morning. That might be a whole other blog though. After class I opted to walk home so Shan could use the van. Was fairly warm and sunny…was actually a pleasant walk and it felt good to loosen the legs up from the workouts.
Jumped on the bike and went for a ride while it was nice out. My legs were cursing me at the start, but then that familiar rhythm where the legs are spinning in a good cadence and you’re breathing hard but-not-too-hard kicked in. Physically I felt better than I have in a while…then I started wondering if I would get the results back on my biopsy soon. If you haven’t gathered from previous posts I had a BIG change in a mole on my back and had it removed. I’m a prime candidate for skin cancer based on my family history and the genetic predispositions for melanoma. You can’t help but worry when the big “C” word is a possibility.
I was clipping along on my ride pretty good when the thought started about my biopsy and soon as the thought entered my mind I had this warm calming sensation wash over me and this feeling that everything is fine. It wasn’t a minute later when I heard my phone ringing from my camelbak followed by the familiar voice mail tone. After another 5 or 6 minutes I came upon Diversion Dam and pulled off. Checked my phone…message from the doc was atypical, non-malignant but follow up appointment in 6 months. [Also referred to MSTI's mole mapping] That was nice to hear and I decided to truck ahead and ride up to Lucky peak.
Got a good 22 miles in before the clouds and wind came in.
The moral of the story….if you fit the profile for potential skin cancer, get checked, get mapped, and bury yourself in sunscreen. Early detection can save your ass.
