My blogs have recently descended into quick 1 word sentences. I haven’t had much left in me to write lately. Tonight I’m writing 1 post to get the brain matter engaged then I’m logging off of facebook and any other of my online apps I frequent and will be doing some massive prep for the first big math exam of the semester.
So we finally splurged a little and got the Wii Fit. It is our combination 10 year anniversary, Christmas, Valentines’ (and any other appropo’ holiday in there) gift as we’ve been living like college students the past year. Oh wait…that’s right..we are.
Unlike the other big gaming systems the appeal and reason we got it is that the Wii is physical…especially with fit package. Instead of being a couch potato zombie with thumb blisters and bloodshot eyes you’re up moving and physically engaged. It’s social…it’s much more fun when multiple people are involved….and it’s something our little family unit can do for entertainment cheaply. The little one participates by pretending any remote shaped object is a controller and waves it furiously at the TV.
Anyway, we’ve been in need of some extra motivation to get back into shape. With the workload of school, etc. it’s easy to sacrifice working out to keep up on the homework, etc. With the recent freezing temperatures my time on the bike has been nil. We just renewed our membership at BSU’s rec center to help with that. If you’re wondering if the Wii fit is a good tool and worth the investment …it is. It’s geared more for someone who has been sedentary for a long time, but what I get out of it are the balance aspects. Not to mention the weight and BMI graphs and the visual aspects of your Mii.
Needless to write, I’ve been working my ass off this week and my body is feeling it! In addition, I joined the BSU Cycling Club for some extra motivation and some access to some group rides. I’m also a Coke addict. (I love saying that). Not the kind you snort but that carbonated beverage of the cola variety. Not only does it not contain any nutritional value whatsoever, but it’s actually negative nutritional value…it’s bad.
So Starting Monday at midnight (that’s like noon for me,during my weekend work schedule) I’m going on a sugar fast for 2 weeks straight. (I’m not giving up carbs because I need those for endurance training). This means no sugar, no soda, no food that contains HFCS, no sugar substitutes, no fruit juice, nothing. Depending on my physiological response I may even make it 3 weeks, and then slowly allow myself a periodic “treat” after that.
I plan to be a lean, mean, mountain biking machine by the end of spring.
Well, I’m off to exercise the brain.
