It seems lately and suddenly that there numerous things to be proud of. Not the least of which is how far we’ve come as a country and what is occurring today.
Our country’s issues run deep and we are in serious crisis mode and the fix will require more than a President’s ability. The executive powers are pretty limited. If you look at the consitution, there isn’t a great deal of power for the President “on paper”. We had issues with a King once and have tried to avoid that type of Government. However, the most important power of the President or any leader, isn’t on paper. It’s the power to persuade the people. And as evidenced by the election last November, Obama has that covered. I love the fact that he seems to be transcending “party politics” and his recent dinner and tribute to McCain was quite gracious after such a heated campaign.
It’s also time to move on from George W. I’ve been a huge critic but I’m actually getting tired of reading the Bush bashing…it’s time to move on stop beating that dead horse.
Other things to be proud of fall more to the level of under my roof.
My oldest is in kindergarten and is way ahead of the academic curve to the level where he’s going to be assesed for the GATE program. One minute he’s a typical 6 year old boy that talks about robots, star wars, legos and nintendo…the next minute he begins telling us about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the article that he read in his “Weekly Reader” and his significance to the world. He has an amazing capacity for understanding things more adult than I probably realize. There are some indicators that his younger brother will probably follow in his footsteps.
Then there is my wife who is putting up with a full time job that has all of the charm of working in a snake pit so we can put a roof over us while I attend school. In addition, she finds time to take on a sewing class, continue in graduate classes to get a better job with better pay, and tutor some special needs kids who are immigrants from a non english speaking country. Quite the family unit I have going on.
I should be getting home from my class today just in time to see the “swearing in” on TV. I can only imagine what it would be like to be there and the incredible energy that will be pinging off the masses. Time to sign off for now.
Cheers!
