Yes…I considered wearing a t-shirt with big bold letters saying “BAH HUMBUG!” this year. This is kind of odd for me considering I’m usually turning into an excitable kid when December comes. But this year I was the grinch for the most part. This year has been different than in the past. Poor economy, crazy schedules, semester end stress, my anxiety peaked. Disheartening to have worked as hard as I have and still a considerable amount of school to go. I began thinking about throwing in the towel for a semester or 2 just to reduce stress and strain. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed.
Well, the ol’ grinch started to lighten up around midnight after helping Santa with the kid’s gifts which were carefully placed around the tree. Then he completely melted when following 2 children down the stairs into the living room with digital camcorder in hand. The gasps sounds of thrilled kids made the day. The oldest was nearly speechless which is unusual for him. The youngest leaped onto his little ride around firetruck with his cute and entertaining verbage. It turned out to be a pretty good holiday in spite of my crappy attitude leading up to it. Was nice being around my goofy and entertaining family!!
Then you realize life is pretty good. There are many others in considerably worse shape right now…and don’t forget the men and women of our armed forces who are far from home and some in the midst of harm’s way.
I’m looking forward to January 20th and seeing what happens througout the New Year. To quote an oldie with some hint of optimism…’things can only get better’.
