Local tragedy

It’s been a week of big highs & lows.  It will be a light blogging week as it seems trivial to post much after the local tragedy of the fires in S.E. Boise this week.  I did not know Dr. Ryder, but my wife the English major did and she had a big impact on her.  Going through the hard work of obtaining a college degree, you occasionally come across an amazing Professor that changes your views of the world and inspires you.  It’s hard to describe the impact these people have unless you’ve experienced it.  I’ve already had a couple of those Professors and it seems that Dr. Ryder was one of those Professors for many.

I can’t imagine the magnitude of loss her husband feels right now.  I’ll keep this short and simply post the Irishman’s Prayer for Dr. Ryder and a link to the American Red Cross for donations.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

  • Thank you for perfection in a blog posting. I’ve told multiple people since this horrible event that, if you didn’t know Mary Ellen, it’s unfortunate. Of course, like most of my fellow students who happened to have the luck of taking her for a class and discovering how wonderful she is, the meeting was a chance event that changed our lives forever. The loss of any person is sad, but the loss of such a wise and wonderful person is even harder to take.

The Irishman’s Prayer is damn near a perfect sendoff.

Dr. Ryder, you will be missed terribly. Pete, we love you.

  • Amen.
