Lessons Learned

People with small children who work night shifts 24 hours a week should not take more than 3 classes. Unfortunately the cost of this lesson will be my GPA this semester. My biggest my problem was my initial test and quiz scores. Homework wasn’t the problem, I got most of my assignements and reading done but I’ve been having severe problems retaining anything. I recently lost my wallet during the course of my working weekend. No idea how or where. I’m going to have to start tying things with strings when I get home at 7 a.m. after a 12 hour shift. Ironically I was reading an article from wired magazine at 5 a.m. the other morning on how sleep deprivation affects memory. After reading the article I’m amazed that I’m able to leave the house completely dressed, remember my name and speak english. Last night both kids were very sick, high fevers, coughing, crying vomiting and basically not allowing mom and dad sleep. After 3 hours of sleep I took my big Physics final this morning. I feel pretty good about it. My Physics class this semester was about the only thing I enjoyed about this semester. I have a new found interest in Constructivism.
Fall will be different. I’m regrouping and approaching a few things differently. Hopefully [knocking on wood] I’ll have a dayshift position by then and some resemblence of normal functioning sleep patterns!!
