little reminders

I’m quite burnt.  Mental stew.  I could post a blog about how tired I am, about how I’ve spent  at least 18 hours doing math problems since Friday, or rant about something silly.   In the chaos and craziness that is life it’s easy to focus your attention on stupid things that only bring you down and make you grumpy.

Then once in a while you come across little reminders that I really have nothing to complain about.

I saw a small piece of an episode of that extreme makeover show…you know the one.  People with horrible circumstances or in special need get their house remodeled.  I generally try to avoid reality tv because, quite frankly, I watch TV to avoid reality!  On my way out the door to work tonight, we got sucked into a recent episode that featured an 8 year old girl from Corvallis, Oregon who battled and beat cancer only to have it come back with a vengeance.  The absolute worst fear of being a parent so naturally you get sucked into it.  Our children should be burying us, not the other way around.

Long story short after 22 months of fighting cancer (again) She died last December -  So no… I have nothing to complain about…it would seem quite trivial if I tried.

While on the subject… here’s a greatwebsite- http://keephopeforever.org  – a young cancer survivor celebrates life by taking pictures of it.

Friday night I had the honor of taking my 5 year old to his first big concert.  Blue Man Group.  How cool is that for your first?  It occurred to me while he was sitting on my lap that it didn’t seem that long ago that he we were driving home from the hospital completely new to this baby thing.

This helped re-enforce my decision to not take any classes during the summer.  You’re only five once…and my degree will always be waiting for me.

Just a little reminder to hit the pause button on life and take in the good stuff….it’s really only a temporary condition.
