The other day I was at home “domesticating”, also known as trying to maintain household order with 2 kids. While fixing some lunch for myself and my 5 year old son, Brennan, I could hear the faint cries of my baby boy, Aidan, who had just woken up from a nap. Aidan is big for his age, 8ish months, and was in his crib which is quite tall for even a normal adult to reach into.
I suddenly stopped what I was doing puzzled by the fact that Aidan’s voice was increasing in volume indicating that he was approaching my present location. This seemed odd because Aidan’s only method of movement is the army “low crawl” and he was in his crib which is escape proof for someone of his age and ability. I stepped out of the kitchen and observed Brennan carrying Aidan into the living room. Brennan had both of his arms wrapped around Aidan across his chest with his feet dragging on the floor. Aidan stopped crying and was gigling when he saw me. My immediate thought was “that’s pretty funny” and I returned to the kitchen. “Ding” the lightbulb above my head finally lit up….wait a minute….how in the hell did Brennan get Aidan out of the crib without a major disaster??? He can hardly reach the top of the crib let alone lift his moose like brother out of the crib.
I quickly entered the boys room expecting to find some elaborate homemade ladder that would have enabled this endeavor. Nope….no visible evidence of escape. “Oh Brennan”…I asked him how he retrieved his baby brother from the crib, when he could hardly carry him into the living room. He smiled and very matter of factly said..”Oh…just floated over and got him.” Ummmm….yeah….no, seriously…how did you do it? “I floated.” A similar sensation that I would get while watching old X Files episodes washed over me. “OK…umm…please don’t do that anymore?” (What else would you say???) I’m sure there is a logical explanation but I can’t figure it out. And I just know that one day I might walk into their room and see my son levitating.

it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up just thinking about him doing that… floating… One of these days, we’ll see it. You’ll have to catch me as I pass out.
